I’ve decided I’m writing two responses. One that is logical, thought out, and respectful, and one that is specially brewed to piss someone off.
For example, here is part of what he wrote:
Yesterday during your news breaks I heard a news interview that turned my stomach. It was the Toledo Public School children screaming that the best thing about watching the new Toledo Hockey Team, (that they saw during the normal school hours), was the fighting. Screaming and laughing, and agreeing with each other that the fights “are the best”. First of all, it just reminded me of the news last week about the High School in the San Fransisco area where after a dance a girl was gang raped and beaten by school mates while 20 other kids watched and did nothing to help.
Here’s a possible response:
Comparing a hockey fight to a rape is like comparing a boxing match to a murder. It’s not as if the players were assaulting each other: both are willing participants in the fight. And it’s not as if the fans didn’t know it could happen. It’s no secret that fights happen in hockey, and if somebody really found it abhorrent, they wouldn’t attend the game.
And here’s the other:
This is only because the people of San Francisco have a very unenlightened view toward gang rape. In stalwart hockey markets like Toronto and Montreal, they’ve eliminated such harsh language: it’s called Surprise Group Sex now (but it’s really just an effort to cut costs in that health care system).
